10 Years of Open Windows at the LGBTQ Resource Center

Problem:

Georgetown Magazine wanted to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the LGBTQ Resource Center at Georgetown, while acknowledging a complex history.

Action:

  1. I interviewed students, staff, and faculty from a wide range of gender identities and sexualities, to gain diverse perspectives on the impacts of the LBGTQ Resource Center.

  2. I spoke with dozens of LGBTQ+ alumni from different periods of Georgetown’s history, with varying perspectives on the degree of progress made over time, to get a longitudinal picture of Georgetown’s history with LGBTQ+ rights.

  3. I worked with our design team to find archival photos from student protests and celebrations on the road to formal university support.

Result:

Every stakeholder involved said that the school’s history was accurately portrayed in the published feature article. One alumnus told Georgetown Magazine that was inspired by the article to make a gift to the LGBTQ Resource Center.
