In Sickness and in Health: Two Married Alumni Share Their Experiences with Mental Illness

Problem:

Georgetown Alumni News was interested in publishing an article on alumnus author’s book about caring for a spouse with bipolar disorder.

Action:

  1. I led an effort to tell a balanced story about both spouses’ experiences with mental illness by interviewing the alumni separately.

  2. I read the book carefully in order to gain enough background information for the article so that I could ask the alumni informed and sensitive questions.

  3. I worked with our digital channel strategy team to promote both spouse’s social media channels, in order to raise awareness for mental health advocacy and draw readership to the book.

Result:

Both alumni were very happy with how their life stories were portrayed.

They were excited to cross-promote the article, which reached a wider audience and earned positive feedback from university leadership.
