Corporate Social Responsibility Communications Consulting for Dafero

Problem:

A member of the Georgetown Venture Lab, Lina Zdruli, was struggling with how to raise awareness for her social enterprise, Dafero, and its corporate social responsibility initiatives. Dafero is a startup that produces date spread while providing employment opportunities and financial education for refugees and survivors of human trafficking.

Action:

  1. Through Georgetown’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) class, Shana Inofuentes, Jiachen Xu, and I provided pro bono communications consulting to Dafero.

  2. In conversation with Zdruli, our team researched Dafero’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

    • Building from this research, we identified strategic media targets, multimedia assets, partners, and event hooks for a joint media campaign.

  3. Finally, we synthesized this information into key messages, themes, and mission & vision statements—all of which we incorporated into concise pitches for customers and reporters.

Result:

We presented concrete recommendations for how Dafero can build its external media kit to execute a strategic CSR communications plan. We solicited feedback from Zdruli and a panel of CSR experts, who gave us constructive suggestions. We delivered a robust final report to Zdruli, who found it extremely useful and plans to use it in the development of her business.
