Mural Story with Story District

Problem:

I wanted to improve my public speaking skills.

Action:

  1. I took a verbal storytelling class at Story District, a community arts NGO based in Washington, D.C.

  2. Over the course of six weeks, I developed a comedic, autobiographical story to tell on stage.

  3. I solicited feedback from my instructors and classmates and iterated many versions of the story’s structure, scope, pace, and characters.

Result:

I performed an eight-minute story at the Story District showcase, overcoming my fear of public speaking.

Now I am a more effective presenter in professional and academic settings.
